2021 Award Mentorship Program for Writers
Updated: Mar 25, 2021
I received some lovely news yesterday and am thrilled to be a recipient of a 2021 Award Mentorship Program for Writers and Illustrators (supported by the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund). This mentorship is going to be invaluable as I continue working on my manuscript, Found Again. Found Again follows the story of Tessa and her ten-year-old son, Frankie, who dies in the bush after a family picnic gone wrong. Tessa convinces herself that she’s the reason he’s gone. Interspersed with flashbacks of life before Frankie’s disappearance, Found Again deals with the deep impacts of child loss and grief, however, ultimately it’s a story about learning to live with pain and the idea that there are beginnings everywhere.
I would really like to hone my writing skills and work with a mentor to polish this story. While it has received some attention from publishers, I haven’t been able to find a home for it, and believe the manuscript needs a substantial rewrite. I'm really excited to work on it again with the guidance and structure this program offers. Such a nice surprise to be successful! The award includes:
20 hours of mentoring with an ASA mentor
Participation in a Paths to Publishing program designed to help you establish yourself as a small business and acquire sufficient industry knowledge to navigate your way through the submission and contract process.
Free ASA membership for 12 months (an extension of membership if you are already a member)
Free ticket to Literary Speed Dating
