Black Cockatoos

Updated: Jul 8, 2021

Aniko Press recently held a flash fiction competition that I am so excited to have placed in! The journal, launched in 2020, is based in Sydney and founded by unapologetic bookworm Emily Riches, with the aim to bring passionate writers and curious readers together. The theme for the comp was 'Flight' and stories had to be 100 words or less! Micro fiction is always a challenge but it's a lot of fun too.

I was lucky enough to have my story chosen as the runner up (the winning story by Patrick Lenton is called Homing Pigeon and so good!). I wrote about the aftermath of fire as the threat of bushfires here in Australia is always very real and something I think about a lot. The story is super short and you can read it here: Black Cockatoos. I hope you like it!
